10 Prompts That Will Inspire You to Journal this Spring

After the Polar Vortex and seemingly never-ending winter, is anyone else happy to welcome spring?

The beautiful thing about seasons is that each is just long enough to leave us excited about the new season coming up.

Author Jessica Harrelson said, “Spring adds new life and new beauty to all that is.”

New life and new things are the inspiration for these spring journaling prompts. Let these breathe new life into your journaling practice.

  1. Spring brings new beginnings. Is there an area of your life or a relationship that needs a new beginning? If so, what is one small thing you can do today to make a change?
  2. What changes around you do you associate with spring? Budding flowers pushing up through the soil? Gentle rain soaking the ground? Geese returning from their winter homes? Describe what you notice most about spring using your senses- taste, smell, touch, sight and sound.
  3. Are you planning to have a garden this year? What would you like to plant? Will it be a flower or vegetable garden? Use your journaling time to plan your garden, including when, what and where to plant.
  4. Do you enjoy going to farmers markets? Which markets are your favorites and what is your favorite thing to buy?
  5. If you could go anywhere for spring break, where would you go? Who would you take with you and what fun things would you do?
  6. What are your favorite activities to do in the spring? Make a list of the things you want to be sure to do this spring. Picking berries, going hiking or visiting a botanic garden will give you a few ideas to get started.
  7. Do you get the spring cleaning bug and start tackling any special projects? What one or two projects could you complete that would make your home feel fresh and clean? Things like cleaning ceiling fans and fixtures, washing window treatments and cleaning baseboards aren’t massive undertakings but make a big difference.
  8. As the old saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” We all love flowers, but the rain can get dreary. What fun things could you do to brighten up a rainy day? Watch a favorite movie? Bake something special? Put on rain gear and go jump in puddles?
  9. Mother’s Day is the second Sunday in May, so it’s a perfect time to reflect on your mom. What is the favorite memory you have of her when you were growing up?
  10. Is there anything you will miss about winter? Do you enjoy the winter clothes, warm soups and drinks, or playing in the snow?

We hope these prompts spark thoughts that lead to a more intentional, memorable and fun spring season.

What is your favorite thing about spring? Feel free to share in the comments below.
